Jesse is a bright and intelligent 3 year old and he was born in 2017 at Kings Collage Hospital by CS section due to the number of complications I encountered during my pregnancy period. Since becoming a mother to him it’s one of life’s most hardest and difficult experienced because as a sickle cell patient I spent most of my time in and out of the hospital let alone having a baby.
However, despite, my challenges as a sickle cell patient and when I found out I was pregnant I decided to carry on with the pregnancy I knew that Jesse is going to bring me so much joy and happiness. Jesse is the true meaning of happiness and joy and thank God Jesse doesn’t have sickle cell but he is a carrier of sickle cell.
Since I gave birth to Jesse in 2017 I knew that Jesse was going to be part of my success story and my journey, therefore I created this blog to share my experiences and how I manage the disease as a mother, being a wife and many other things. So far I must say managing my health and coping with being a sickle cell patient is very demanding and at the same time looking after my 3 year old son.
Jesse is now able to attend nursery and doing very well for his age even though it was hard for him to settle down in class. There has been number of concerns about his development for example his speech and his pronunciation was an issue for me as a mother and I find it difficult to communicate with him. So we were referred to speech and language therapy organisations in order to help with the communication barrier. After few appointments he was given a book to help with his speech and I must say its helping and I am starting to see changes in his communication even though we are at progressing stage step by step and I know over time it will get better.
Jesse was given several developmental targets and goals to improve on which myself and his nursery are working towards in order to get him better. Some of the goals are story times, to be able to understand the meaning of danger around him and other children.
Back in November 2019, I had a meeting with Jesse school and some other professionals about myself and Jesse’s development since starting Nursery, I wasn’t expecting so much positive result from them. I had one of the professionals told me that she’s never seen someone who takes motherhood seriously and she said I am doing very well and impressed with my performance. She also stated, motherhood is as if it’s like a passion to me despite having so many challenges in managing my health. As if that wasn’t enough Jesse’s nursery said I’m one of the best parents they have in the school and that I always respond to them and he has made so much progress.
During my pregnancy I was told I could lose my life and now hearing all this amazing things about him makes me proud as a mother and I cannot swap my baby for anything in this world. To add, this is the baby they want me to have emergency CS, this is the baby I was rushed to hospital because of complications I was having if I chose to give up, if I chose not to be determined if I chose not to listen to the voice of this Jesse I wouldn’t have been here today but I chose to fight the battle and see him today.
I am so touch with your story. May the almighty Lord continue to keep you and your wonderful family. The Lord is always in control
Thank you and amen
